bowl of life

a
call
came at
dawn you’re in
the hospital again

fast, slow, the morning passed,
while a tree was removed in my backyard

a long life cut down for standing too tall with
choking, gnarled, deep roots, and branches too heavy

i ate a bowl of life for lunch

considered
these signs
from the
universe

and made plans to go say goodbye
