From Honeybun

@fromhoneybun is an ongoing collection of flash poetry first shared on instagram. Below is a selection.

you used to always ask
for my things
my sunglasses,
my jewelry,
my coffee,
even when i brought you coffee
"can i have it?"
you'd say with a laugh
and now, going through your things
where all that was yours is now mine
i wish i could ask you
"can i have it?"
a
call
came at
dawn you're in
the hospital again

fast, slow, the morning passed,
while a tree was removed in my backyard

a long life cut down for standing too tall with
choking, gnarled, deep roots, and branches too heavy

i ate a bowl of life for lunch

considered
these signs
from the
universe

and made plans to go say goodbye
